Discover heartwarming relationships, enduring friendships, and the profound connection between humanity and nature in the Potomac Shores series. Set against the inviting backdrop of the Potomac River and the small town of Occoquan, this series explores the complexities of midlife as Katie and the beloved Beach Bonfire Babes navigate challenges and celebrate life’s precious moments with humor and resilience. The evocative storytelling and relatable characters bring eco-fiction to life and will leave you longing for your own beach bonfire.
Many novels are set on the Chesapeake Bay, the marshes of the Carolina Lowcountry, New England waters, even the Great Lakes. Now the Potomac River, which runs through our nation’s history, is the focal point of a romantic women’s fiction series.
Writing the Potomac Shores series has been a great opportunity to create a world in which my characters are immersed in many of the interests and places that I love. My experiences as a boater on the Potomac and in south Florida have helped to shape my narratives. In fact, Bonnie Brae is a real plot of land where my parents had planned to build their retirement home, with grand views of Belmont Bay. After they passed away, I found the blueprints for the house, the same house that is the focal point of the series.
Although the river house at Bonnie Brae is fictitious, the surroundings are very much real places you can explore on foot or by water along the Potomac River and its tributaries, including the Occoquan River and the small riverside town of Occoquan. See the Resources page for more information on parks, restaurants, shops, and other destinations described in the books.
